FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHEN SHOULD MY CHILD SEE A SPEECH/LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST?

It's important to remember that every child develops at their own pace, so avoid comparing children. However, you should trust your gut if you have concerns about your child's development and consult with a speech language pathologist about your concerns. Additionally, if you notice any of the signs below you should contact an SLP.

1. Less than 20 words by 18 months and less than 50 words by age 2.

2.  Limited babbling as a baby and/or only uses a few sounds to produce words.

3. Difficulty following simple and routine directions by age 2.

4. Prefers to play alone, no eye contact and not pointing to show objects by age 12-15 months.

5. Child is not understood by both familiar and less familiar people.

WHERE DO YOU PROVIDE SERVICES?

Therapy is provided in your home. There are many benefits to in-home therapy. First, it's convenient; no rushing to get out the door with your child(ren). Some children are overwhelmed by waiting rooms, which can be large and noisy. Studies have shown that children are more relaxed and comfortable when therapy is provided in the home. They receive undivided attention. This allows for better outcomes.

MY CHILD ALREADY HAD A SPEECH-LANGUAGE EVALUATION. DO THEY NEED ANOTHER ONE?

Please provide a copy of any evaluations conducted within the past six months.  The results will be used in determining your child's treatment plan, goals, frequency and duration of therapy. If additional information is needed or your child's evaluation was conducted over six months, your child will require a re-evaluation prior to beginning therapy.

WILL MY INSURANCE COVER THE EVALUATION AND THERAPY?

Currently, we are a private pay provider and do not participate in any in-network insurance plans. While we do not bill insurance, we do provide you with a Superbill at the end of the month that you submit to your insurance company. Before booking an appointment, we suggest calling the number on the back of your insurance card and inquiring about your “out of network” therapy benefits and learning about how to submit for an out of network reimbursement. We can provide you with a list of questions to ask your insurance provider.

WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?

We accept cash, checks and credit cards.
